Heraldry
The Dearborn Sail and Power Squadron is an affiliate organization of the United States Power
Squadron, a non-profit organization established in 1914 to promote safe boating on our waterways.
Since our membership comes from such a wide geographical area, our meetings are held in halls
and restaurants throughout the Detroit Suburban area. Cocktail hour is at 1800 hours (6:00 PM ),
Dinner at 1900 hours (7:00 PM ), and our meeting is called to order at 2000 hours (8:00 PM). After
the meeting, we hold our 50/50 raffle and our guest speaker for the evening is introduced. For
information on upcoming meetings, please click

The squadron's burgee design was a result of a contest opened to all Dearborn Power Squadron
members in 1955. Edward Rosalik, AP, designed the burgee that was chosen as the best of the
entries.

The design shows the lower peninsula of Michigan nested inside a ship’s wheel to show that the
Great Lakes State is surrounded by water and boating activity. The ship’s wheel is the center of the
nested burgee, reflecting Dearborn Power Squadron. The total burgee with its blue and whit stripes
reflects the USPS Ensign. The Yellow border around the burgee represent 50 years of membership
with the USPS.
